Red Squirrels are frequent visitors to Squirrel's Pantry Tea-room, which is situated in the grounds of Oakhurst Garden Centre. The first sighting for many years was in February 1998, and now they appear  daily. 

 Oakhurst Garden Centre supports  Allerdale Red Squirrel Group.

Our Rusty

 If you go quietly into the wood

You might see our Rusty looking for food

Hazel nuts, pine nuts, sunflower seeds

Placed in a feeder supplement his needs

From a special hopper, Red Alert approved

Rusty feeds safely, and grey's are removed

Watch him in silence, he’ll let you observe

This timorous creature, we need to conserve

With grey squirrels approaching the reds border line

Our native red squirrel, is fast in decline

As an endangered species, he needs conservation

So join a support group, or make a donation

Report any sightings if you see a grey
