Squirrels Pantry Victorian Tea-room

Visit the Squirrels's Pantry Web Site

Named after the Red Squirrels that visit here to feed, Squirrel’s Pantry opened in Easter 1998. Transformed from a tumbledown Victorian greenhouse and potting shed to a light and airy tranquil oasis, Squirrels Pantry is the ideal place to drop in and have a rest and some light refreshment.

Much of the original building has been left intact, with the potting shed/boiler house becoming the kitchen. The brick work is original and the bricks themselves were made in Clifton, Workington. Set alongside the wooded drive way into the Garden Centre, it is an ideal location, with good access for the elderly and disabled. The addition of a patio balcony, overlooking the river Cocker provides an area for outdoor eating where bird watchers can spot nuthatches and treecreepers to name but a few of the 40 varieties of bird spotted in and around the grounds of Oakhurst Garden Centre.

Sunflower Seed Bread, baked in a Flower Pot

Everything served in Squirrel's Pantry is made on the premises. You can enjoy a tasty snack at lunchtime or afternoon tea with traditional scones and home made cakes, freshly ground coffee, or a selection of tea. Served to you in fine china, with traditional waitress service. Imagine eating a delicious homemade soup from the varied and healthy menu, accompanied by homemade bread, baked in a flowerpot, whilst watching a red squirrel feed.

We hope you will, enjoy, a visit to Oakhurst Garden Centre.
