Oakhurst Garden Centre was established over 20 years ago by the proprietor John Hughes. John came to Cockermouth as a boy when his father was made Station Master. Starting the business in little more than a potting shed, the centre has evolved into an attractive landscaped site, and extensive garden shop. Oakhurst Garden Centre is set in the wooded grounds of a nineteenth century mansion named, 'Oakhurst' over looking the river Cocker.
From the road (A5086) the tree shaded drive, which displays Garden Sheds, takes you to the adequate sized car park in front of the Victorian house.
Throughout the seasons there are regular daily deliveries. The latest addition to the site is that of the Victorian Tea-room Squirrels Pantry.
